How to Start a WordPress Blog and host it on SiteGround:
A few years ago I had a blog on Blogger and although I wrote lot’s of good articles and put in tons of effort I realized after some time that if I wanted to make a success of my blog I would need to shift to a self-hosted blog such as WordPress.

This post uses affiliate links, meaning I may receive a small commission at no cost to you if you use them. Get full disclaimer here.

I wanted to be able to build a great blog where I could showcase my artwork, sell stuff online and also share things I cared about like my family and faith. That was how my Blog ‘Moments of Grace and Glory’ was born. It has been a steep learning curve and a great blog won’t just happen overnight without a bit of hard graft but making the choice to move my blog to WordPress and choosing Siteground to host it has been one of the better choices I have made.

If you ever decide you want to make money from your blog or do freelancing work then it is important that you choose a great company to host your WordPress Blog. Setting up your blog on SiteGround would be a great choice as you get cheap hosting for as little as $3.95/month (if you sign up through my link.)
So first things first,
you will need to head on over to SiteGround to get started. There are many web hosting companies out there, but I believe SiteGround is one of the best which is why I use them to host my blog. There is a reason why 800,000+ bloggers choose SiteGround for their web hosting needs.
Remember, if you go ahead & sign up for hosting with SiteGround and you are unsure at any step along the way (such as how to set it up, picking a plan, pricing, etc.), you can always send me an email and I will do my best to help you out. I am here to serve you, so make sure you reach out if you get stuck!
Click Here to get started on Siteground and after you signup for the WordPress hosting package HERE you will receive all the necessary information you need to login & Install WordPress.
Step 1. Choose your hosting plan for your WordPress Blog:
SiteGround has three plans and you can sign up for any of them with a great discount on your affiliate link.
- The StartUp plan is perfect for people with one website that are starting now
- The GrowBig plan is a great value for money offer, including the option for multiple websites and the SuperCacher that greatly improves a WordPress and Joomla website speed
- The GoGeek plan is perfect for people with e-commerce and larger sites, or more geeky development needs like staging and GIT integration.
I would recommend that you start with the Start-Up Plan at $3.95/month.
Step 2. Choosing a Domain for your WordPress Blog
You can choose to buy a new domain, or sign up for an existing domain. I would like to emphasize the free website transfer that is included in the SiteGround hosting service. This will save you $30 and every saving helps, right!
Step 3. Review and Complete
Unlike many other hosting providers SiteGround’s advertised discount applies to any of the initial periods chosen during the sign-up process. Being able to get the low price for the one year period in comparison to other providers where the lowest monthly price applies only for the longest period is a real plus!
Once you have signed up for your Hosting package you can go ahead and use the SiteGround Wizard to Install WordPress.

The next page consists of two parts. In the first one, enter the login information for your new WordPress application.
Next, pick one of the free WordPress themes available in the Wizard and click on the Submit button once again.
Finally, you will see a quick summary of your WordPress installation, including from where to access your admin area, your username, and your password.
That’s it! You can now go to the front page of your site and check out the newly installed WordPress application.
Congratulations on your new WordPress Site!
Once you have set up your Siteground Account you can also sign up for their Affiliate programme or their Referral Programme and both offer some really good incentives and perks. You can advertise using Sitegrounds premade banners on your blog/website or you can custom build your own and to top it off the commission rates are really good!!

Such useful information – thank you for sharing. I have gone with Squarespace for my website because I just love the design and freedom with it creatively. I find the ease of it to use means Ihave more time to focus on content and blogs! You do have to work a little harder on SEO but it forces me not to be lazy in that area!!
