My kiwi Christmas down under in the sun!

Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year

But with only 12 sleeps to go and the hottest summer we’ve had in a few years it’s been hard to get into Christmas this year. So I decide to write this post to get into the Christmas Spirit!

As this lovely picture shows below many of my friends in the Northern Hemisphere associate Christmas with winter, snow and cold weather. Not so down under in Kiwi Land!

Living on the Kapiti Coast

My family lives on the Kapiti Coast and we are officially in drought!!!  Last summer was cold & it rained non stop so Winter felt like it never ceased. This year it seems strange to be sweltering in the heat & not being able to sleep at night in Mid December.

Christmas Here We Come!

Never the less it’s nearly Christmas and I love this season!  I love Nativities and Christmas Carol’s and the Christmas Production at Church, pancakes on Christmas morning and hanging out with my kiddo’s, eating too much, Pavlova and Trifle and swimming in the river if the day is blistering hot!

One of the best things about a NZ Christmas are the Pohutukawa Trees, we call them the NZ Christmas Tree. They are all starting to flower and they just shout Christmas!

For our family this season exists to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It’s a precious time to remember that to us a Son was given, to us a Savior was born! Without Him the gift giving and festivities just become a commercial activity with no meaning!

Jesus! He is the reason for the season!

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

  1. My husband and I spent our very first Christmas together in New Zealand. Best memories ever. We backpacked for 2 nights south of Queenstown and truly had a unique Christmas. Love New Zealand. Can’t wait to come back in 2020 for our 20th. 😊

  2. I might just have to try that recipe-sounds yummy! Thanks for sharing what Christmas is like in your part of the world. It’s been a sunny 60 degrees here in Colorado,USA and I am loving the warm weather, although I know many others are hoping for a white Christmas. Hope you enjoy your Christmas season!

Leave me a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts!
